Annecy

Andrew, an old friend, traveled to Annecy from his home in Switzerland to spend a few days with us.

The part of this building protruding above the Thiou River was once a typical outhouse. The river is clean today but clearly hasn't always been.

Lake Annecy is said to be one of Europe's cleanest and clearest lakes. While the rest of the gang headed to Chamonix, Joe and Andrew stayed behind to enjoy a boat ride around the lake and a relaxing day in Annecy.
Adventures in Dining
Erin and Linda shared a coffee break at Paul. The eclair with raspberry and cream filling was divine. Will we ever get tired of French pastries? (You already know the answer to that).

We celebrated Nora's birthday at an Italian restaurant where we ordered three large pizzas to share. Despite the fact that Andrew is fluent in French, we couldn't seem to make it clear that we wanted six plates. Nora had a salad first, so at least she had a bowl. The rest of us ate off of serving dishes and napkins.
Ordering lunch at an automated kiosk at LÜKS Kebab was tricky. Instructions were in French, but we could recognize words like abort, abandon, start over, and try again. We believed we were one step away from being told to give up and go home. But our perseverance paid off, and we finally got our kebabs. The feeling of success made them especially delicious!

At Les Retrouvailles Brasserie, Joe and Andrew, old climbing and skiing buddies, had great fun reminiscing and sharing stories from their many adventures together.
